WHO ARE WE?
Founder Sjoerd Schepel works in primary education. His sports training, SPH, PA and his school leadership training (all in the interest of the development of 'the child'), along with his passion for soccer (both playing himself and coaching children) have shaped his vision for this foundation:
"Children, through a wide range of educational and athletic activities, can grow up more balanced and grow into adults who know and utilize their talents and passions."
The foundation's board eventually expanded to include Bob Bergsma, Johan Koster and Fabiola Schepel. All three are experienced directors and very socially involved.
The Schepel Foundation aims to help children develop healthy(er) lifestyles and opportunities that will help them develop into confident adults and reach their ultimate goal. Our motto is therefore, "Together we take a step toward your future!"
We, as TSF, will be adding more and more projects to our database. We support both new initiatives and already existing initiatives that have been set up to offer 'the child' a promising future. So that we can help more and more children worldwide.
We are now playing weekly soccer in the following neighborhoods (see also activity calendar)
1. Otrobanda
2. Scharloo
3. Julianadorp
Participants will also receive a T-shirt if they are frequent participants in the training sessions.
We hope to greet you and your child(ren) weekly at one or more soccer practices.
Sjoerd Schepel founded The Schepel Foundation (TSF) in 2016!
In 2018, we revamped this activity afternoon by bringing the activities to the children. We started in the Scharloo neighborhood. Every Wednesday and Thursday evening, a team of volunteers is active there coaching local youth in soccer and basketball.
Subsequently, in 2019, the education trip project was established. This group of volunteers organizes an educational trip several times a year for professionals within the education sector in Curaçao.
In 2020 we changed the concept and decided to focus on playing soccer in the neighborhood in a recreational way, not according to any particular method. We play matches among ourselves and teach the children to play together where every participant belongs. We are primarily the unifying factor and offer a safe environment where everyone can feel at home. In the activity calendar you can see exactly in which districts we are active and what the training times are. Also the age of participation is listed, so you can read if your child can already participate. In the neighborhoods Scharloo and Otrobanda participation is free. In the district Julianadorp there is a fee. In this district you must register your child, because there are only a limited number of places available. In the other districts you can just come with your child or children.
Johan Koster is joining our board as secretary.
In 2021, we celebrated our fifth anniversary with a big soccer event in the Otrobanda neighborhood.
The children, volunteers and other interested parties loved it. There was also a DJ on hand to make everything even more formal. The children could play soccer, there was pizza there was drinks for everyone and all the children and volunteers received the new shirt. On this new shirt is our logo and we added the flag of Curacao. It was also a moment of yes we have existed in Curaçao for five years and we want to continue for many more years. Newspapers: the Antillean Daily and the Caribbean Network also came to visit, to conduct interviews and take pictures.
Therefore, it was decided to make everything even more professional. See our policy plan/multi-year plan 2022-2026 for this.
At the end of 2021 we also set up a foundation in the Netherlands to receive more sponsorship and donations to give the Foundation on Curaçao even more body and to be able to do even more for the children and those of Curaçao in particular.
In 2022, we were also able to add ANBI status to The Schepel Foundation in the Netherlands. In addition, a Dutch bank account has been opened. The Dutch foundation is officially a fact!
